Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s normal to be a little anxious or uncertain, especially if it’s your first time.
Once you contact me, I will get back to you shortly with available times for an initial consultation. This first meeting is an opportunity for us to introduce
ourselves
and discuss what brings you to therapy at this point in your life.
The consultation also gives us both a chance to experience how it feels to work together and helps you get a sense of what therapy might be like. Sometimes more than one initial consultation may be helpful before
deciding whether to begin therapy.
During the consultation, I will listen carefully to what feels most important to you and learn more about your background and family history.
I will explain how I work and answer any questions you may have.
If we decide to continue, we’ll arrange to meet weekly at the same time and day for 50-minute sessions. Having a regular time creates a predictable and safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
In some cases, we may decide together to meet more than once a week, as this way of working can be especially helpful in exploring deep-rooted or long-standing difficulties and complex trauma.
If it seems that additional or different kinds of support might be helpful, for example, from another specialist or service, I will discuss this with you and help you think about what might best meet your needs.
